What resources would you recommend for churches to support those suffering from mental illness?
I am not aware of resources for churches specifically but I have found some useful books and articles that are worth mentioning.
Hard Questions about Health and Healing by Andrew Fergusson is written from a medical perspective and addresses lots of the difficult issues that Christians grapple with include miraculous healing and the purpose of suffering.
Tested by Fire by John Piper is a helpful book reflecting on the fruit of affliction or suffering from the Bible and the lives of Bunyan, Cowper and Brainerd.
Several doctors from the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) have written helpful articles on psychiatry and mental health from a Christian point of view, including on a spiritual framework for mental illness, evaluating therapies from a Christian point of view, working in psychiatry as a Christian, and the demonic (click links to read).
